“Rural Development Accepted” and Ready for Deployment:
Tecore’s 3G and 4G Mobile Products Address ARRA Broadband Initiatives
For Immediate Release: Friday, July 10, 2009
Field-Proven Networking Systems Support the Rapid Application Process For $4 Billion in Funding from RUS and NTIA
Columbia, Md., USA – Tecore Networks, a Maryland-based global supplier of multi-technology 2G, 3G and 4G mobile network infrastructure, today welcomed Vice President Biden’s announcement of over $4 billion in funding for broadband service in rural, unserved and underserved regions of the United States, as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA). Tecore’s core network, radio access network and turnkey infrastructure products have received USDA Rural Development Acceptance and “Buy American” status, have been deployed for over a decade in rural, new license and remote networks around the globe, and have evolved to 3G and 4G mobile broadband standards, making them ideal to support applications being accepted in a short window between July 14 and August 14, 2009.
The ARRA called for a total of $7.2 billion in funding for broadband initiatives in rural and underserved parts of the country, to be overseen by the Rural Utilities Service (RUS) and National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA). Vice President Biden’s announcement represents the first Notice of Funding Availability, with more expected to follow. The initiatives are intended to provide broadband Internet access to those areas where job creation and preservation and economic development would be most improved with such service.
Tecore offers the iCore® all-IP core network and the iBSS™ radio access network, streamlined and software-defined products designed to bring the capabilities of Tier 1 mobile networks to smaller operators. Supporting the GSM and CDMA technology families through 2G and 3G, with an upgrade path via software plug-ins to 4G LTE, these products offer the reliability of a widely deployed platform, the upward and downward scalability critical to rural and remote markets, and the advanced broadband service required by the ARRA. iCore and iBSS also enable multi-technology roaming to maximize revenue from visiting subscribers, and provide concurrent support for 2G voice services as part of a comprehensive communications service offering.
