Tecore Caps 2009 With Mobile Networking Innovation, and Kicks Off 2010 by Delighting Carrier and Government Customers

For Immediate Release: Tuesday, January 12, 2010

Visit Tecore Networks at Mobile World Congress, February 15-18, Stand 8C78

Columbia, Md., USA – Tecore Networks, a global supplier of multi-technology 2G, 3G and 4G mobile network infrastructure, strengthened its record of innovation in 2009 with the introduction of scalable UMTS and LTE platforms uniquely designed for rural, remote and new-license networks as well as government agencies. The company’s Intelligent Network Access Controller (iNAC) was demonstrated as a preferred method to control contraband cellular communications in the U.S. Based on its commitment to the long-term success of its products and customers, Tecore penetrated new markets while also obtaining expansion orders from a significant percentage of existing clients. The company’s senior management will showcase Tecore’s track record and solutions at Mobile World Congress, February 15-18, Stand 8C78.

In 2009, iCore® — the all-IP multi-technology software-defined core network — was augmented with an integrated UMTS Radio Network Controller (RNC). Together with the iCore UMSC and HSS, the RNC enhances support for 3G services and further streamlines the smallest multi-technology network-in-a-box in the industry. Rural and emerging mobile network operators can optimize total cost of ownership by avoiding the expense of separate RNCs, while also utilizing Tier-1 3G NodeBs with iCore for their RNC and core network elements. Tecore also announced the development of the Mobility Management Engine (MME) and Service Architecture Evolution (SAE) Gateway as software plug-ins to iCore, to enable customers to upgrade their 3G networks to 4G LTE when their markets demand it.

Tecore also responded with innovation to address a very complicated and dangerous misuse of cell phones behind prison bars. The company publicly demonstrated its iNAC Managed Access system as a superior alternative to jamming as a means to control cellular communications in restricted areas. The system blocks unauthorized devices while allowing authorized devices to complete calls on the commercial networks. The iNAC also satisfies E911 and other regulatory requirements, all in complete coordination with the local commercial carriers.

Tecore was recertified by the British Standards Institute (BSI) for the latest revision of the ISO 9000 Standard, ISO 9001:2008. The company earned the certification upgrade after a thorough audit by BSI yielded proof of standard-compliant processes and procedures. Tecore has been ISO 9000 certified since January 2002, and is one of few telecommunications equipment vendors to receive the certification upgrade.

The company’s technical, operational and customer support excellence combined to win orders from new and existing, commercial and government clients. Among them, a commercial operator in Alaska chose to expand its converged GSM-CDMA network with Tecore, citing the all-IP multi-technology architecture, innovative features such as seamless messaging between technologies, ease of scalability and ruggedness to address a harsh installation environment. A significant government win occurred when Tecore supplied turnkey GSM networks including core and radio access to major military facilities, including cells-on-wheels connected to a complete all-IP core, and an upgrade path to 3G and 4G through software plug-ins.

“Tecore continues to innovate and grow as it has since 1991, getting stronger with each economic and industry cycle,” said Jay Salkini, President and Chief Executive Officer. “I would like to thank our customers for their business, and our employees for their dedication to the success of our company and of our customers. In 2010, we expect to see an aggressive drive by our customers to upgrade to cost-effective and scalable 3G, increased adoption by government clients of secure GSM and UMTS networking, and the first deployments of 4G LTE. Tecore stands ready to address all of these requirements.”
