Tecore Networks To Offer Hands-On Tours of iNAC Managed Access System, Optimal Solution for Contraband Cell Phones, At American Correctional Association Congress

For Immediate Release: Wednesday, July 28, 2010

Visit Tecore at Booth #1329, August 1-3, 2010

Columbia, Md., USA – Tecore Networks, a U.S.-owned global supplier of multi-technology 2G, 3G and 4G mobile network infrastructure, today announced that it will be exhibiting its Intelligent Network Access Controller (iNAC™), offering corrections officials hands-on tours of the optimal solution to eliminate contraband cell phones in prisons, at the American Correctional Association Congress in Chicago, Illinois, August 1-3, 2010 in booth #1329. The iNAC, which legally prevents unauthorized cellular communications while permitting authorized and emergency calls, will be shown in the Mobile Unit configuration, and Tecore executives will be available to discuss the complete range of configurations and features to assist the corrections community in eradicating a pervasive and growing threat to public safety.

iNAC forms a radio frequency umbrella around a precisely defined target area and intercepts cellular devices within range. This managed access solution provides the system operator with the capability to permit or deny communications from these devices based on a rich policy engine, including allowing 911 calls from even unauthorized devices. This technology does not require changes to existing law in order to be operated.

The advantages of iNAC for corrections personnel include:

  • Assurance that unwanted communications are being disrupted before they can occur
  • Avoidance of resource-intensive measures to manually locate and retrieve devices
  • Addressing not only cell phones, but subscriber identity module (SIM) cards which store contact lists and account plans, are as small as postage stamps and easily concealable, and can be transferred from one phone to another so that inmates can continue to place calls
  • Availability of device and call information for forensic analysis consistent with applicable law.
“In the past two years, departments of corrections have pursued alternative solutions to eliminate inmate use of cell phones, yet the number of contraband devices has more than doubled in that period,” said Bruce Portell, Chief Operating Officer, Tecore Networks. “Tecore Networks has the optimal and legal solution, and has been working with correctional facilities, carriers and regulators to implement it with dramatic results. My team and I look forward to walking corrections officials through the iNAC system – and listening to their requirements – at the ACA Congress, so we can work together to eliminate contraband cell phones in prisons everywhere.”
